Such fun at this winter's Home and Remodeling Show at the Dulles Expo Center! For all you ambitious Northern Virginia home owners out there from Alexandria to Leesburg and throughout Fairfax and Loudoun counties, here are a few ideas to ponder.
An interesting twist on outdoor cooking/kitchen spaces I’ve never seen before! Would ya believe an outdoor “movable” kitchen set up, with work space, grill, mini refrig lights, and room to put 3+ stools at a bar to watch the chef! ~ crazy! It weighs in at approxmately 1200 lbs and moves in one piece (after removing appliances!). Please don’t try to move yourself!! HA!
I enjoyed chatting with many local home improvement firms at the Show the weekend of Jan. 17-19. It was great! I asked what are homeowners remodeling? No guessing here, their kitchens and baths of course! Most agreed, cabinets choice color is Black and or Cocoa or a cream with a distressed look. Glass door accents are very poplar too. Folks are selecting granite, still!
Lots of folks want to be rid of their big soaking tubs, or at least shrink the size and have plenty of room for an oversized shower. An interesting mix of tiles, and sizes with the tile going up to the ceiling is often what home owners are excited about. See my earlier blog post about this here. I’d say do it now and enjoy, before it’s time for us to sell your home! I met the owner of Two Poor Teachers who have a showroom on wheels showroom they can drive to your home (and plenty of other options too). What a great idea!
I'm a big believer it making statements with your front door. Check out a few of the custom door images I saw from the catalog of Clark Hall Doors in Vienna. Email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call me (703-593-9432) if you want to see more of them.
The appliance company Bray and Scarff was there and Sam, a very knowledgeable sales rep from the Fairfax location, says stainless steel is still the number one seller and continues to be what everyone wants. The “French” style is “hot”.
Closet and garage organization! WOW! There were several of these companies. A big request is the mud room or entry way to home for kids stuff! Imagine the whole family has their own locker! I met an owner of one these companies and I was impressed by his knowledge and enthusiasm! He’s Scot Schrager Closet Renovators in Burke and definitely worth chatting with. The garage storage systems are VERY cool!
Seriously, would you pay $2,700+ for pots and pans? Truthfully, I‘ve seen these before, it IS amazing cookware. But me Irish guilt just can’t allow myself to buy it! Really, right?
My only disappointment? I did not win the very cool Kitchen Aide mixer in raspberry!! Darn!
